Disaster Recovery Evaluation
EBS is conducting an in depth analysis of the disaster recovery
capabilities of the largest department in the State of Maryland
and its 6 sub-agencies. EBS' work involves supporting a total of
211 individual headquarters and local offices with an excess of
11,000 employees with an average of 21,500 daily transactions,
such as acceptance of applications, issuances of variety of
licenses, registration, review and issuance of permits, site
visits reports, etc. Telephone inquiries and emails also
account for over 8,500 contacts per day. The Department has
over 11 primary computer facilities with over 1,300 servers
and maintains 7 controlled and public web sites.
Initial activities are to first review the Department's
current Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and determine its capability
and acceptability for providing continuous systems operations in
the event of a disaster. Updates will then be made that will
incorporate the EBS', as well as the Department's inputs, then
upon approval from the Department, EBS will execute the DRP
for each of the six sub-agencies and the Department's headquarters.
As part of the execution of the disaster recovery/contingency plan,
EBS will perform the necessary back ups of data, ensure
redundancy of critical systems, provide alternate paths to route data
in case of the failure of the communication infrastructure, propose
more than adequate sparing, and offer EBS' Network Operations
Center (NOC) as a back up facility to support the Department's NOC
and the 6 sub-agencies.
